I have been on the internet for quite a few years and in that time I have seen sites comes and go.
The main problem in getting people to join has been the front page design. Logos mean very little if the front page takes an eternity to load up and the photos that should be showing are not. Another problem is how well it is to manage your way around.
Sites that have failed have done so because of a few factors. CS sucks out the butt!!! The response time from CS turns a lot of sellers off! Small improvements along the way is another. Starting out FREE and then having to charge to keep the site running. Another HUGE downer is having the owners sit and complain that they are not making any profit. (That is expected, in most cases, within the first 18 months of the site's beginning).
All in all, it is a hit or miss game and either you make it or you don't.
One last item here. When a site goes out of it's way to make each individual member on the site happy and does not do improvements to help satisfy the majority of people at one time, it will take you down quickly. |
